Hindsight Is 2020: Would Of, Could Of, Should Of Done This Year

Some things become more obvious with the passing of time. Some call it “hindsight is 20/20.” The phrase is so fitting for this year (2020) which has made everyone look back and reflect on what they should have, would have or could have done differently.

Could you have prepared for this year any better? Maybe investing in Zoom would have been a great idea. Maybe taking a long vacation before March would have saved you from regret during quarantine. Having money in your savings. Maybe you should have changed careers before the unprecedented unemployment spike.

When we speak about would of’s, should of’s and could of’s, they are often tied with guilt. We dissect every moment of time and we consider every different scenario and outcome you can imagine. Our irrational brain will find just about anything to feel guilty about. Despite being irrational, this guilt can be consuming to your mental health.

Those  would of’s, should of’s and could of’s that I mentioned seem like good ideas now, but would they have been good ideas for you personally? Without someone or something to blame, we have to accept that the universe may be unpredictable and chaotic. Some of the events that happened this year pushed us forward, tested us and progressed us forward beyond what we thought was ever possible. Whether you believe it or not. 2020 has went in the direction that it was intended to go in.

2020 is here to teach you something. Take it’s lesson and let it make you better heading into the year to come.
